Complex distillery project in a remote location delivered ahead of schedule

The Challenge

Balmoral Tanks through its WaterTanQ potable water storage range, has successfully installed two water tanks to a remote distillery, overcoming logistical and environmental challenges.

Delivered in collaboration with our client, Morris & Spottiswood, two 511m³ galvanised steel sectional cylindrical water storage tanks, were supplied and installed to support the distillery’s expansion on the Isle of Islay, off the West coast of Scotland.

The project presented a set of logistical and environmental challenges, as the distillery required increased bore water storage, however, its remote island location complicated both access and delivery.

Transporting materials and installation teams relied on coordinated ferry movements, and once on site, the exposed coastal location introduced further risk, with unpredictable weather conditions.

The Solution

Through careful and considered logistical planning and coordination, Balmoral Tanks were able to provide a fully integrated solution across design, manufacture and delivery.

Two 511m³ galvanised steel sectional cylindrical tanks were engineered specifically for the project, incorporating durable PVC liners and designed in accordance with all relevant standards.

Logistics were carefully planned, with specialist transport arranged to navigate ferry access and deliver materials in line with the installation schedule. This allowed site teams to begin work immediately upon arrival, avoiding unnecessary downtime.

On site, installation teams adapted to the conditions, working extended hours and weekends to deliver the works on time. This flexibility ultimately accelerated completion of the project.

The project was delivered from design to delivery under budget and installation time was reduced by one day.

Conclusion

Despite the challenges of location, weather and technical demands, Balmoral Tanks delivered this project successfully and to a high standard. The result is a robust, high-capacity WatertanQ solution that will support the distillery’s continued growth, and this project demonstrates Balmoral Tanks’ ability to go above and beyond to meet our client needs.
