The Challenge

Offering a flexible and collaborative approach, Balmoral Tanks, through its WaterTanQ potable water storage range, successfully delivered the installation of a wastewater tank. As part of a project for WA Cooke Group, the team was commissioned to design, manufacture and install a 150.87m³ epoxy efusion tank within a concrete bund at a dairy facility in Stafford.

The project presented several logistical and environmental challenges, as the tank needed to be constructed within the bund that was 1.5 metres high. This created restricted access to the area, making installation difficult.

All materials had to be lifted over the bund wall, adding complexity at every stage of the build. Persistent rainfall meant the bund repeatedly filled with water. Continuous pumping was required to maintain a safe and workable area, increasing demand on site resources.

Our Solution

To overcome these challenges, the team adopted a flexible, solutions-driven approach, working in close collaboration with the client to ensure the project remained on track.

Careful planning and ongoing communication were key to navigating the site constraints and maintaining momentum throughout the installation.

While some lifting requirements were supported by a crane provided by the client, additional equipment was needed to ensure the project progressed. A telehandler was introduced to support the remaining lifting operations, ensuring materials and equipment could be safely moved over the bund wall.

Anticipating increased costs due to this additional support, the team worked closely with the client to reach a mutual agreement that helped control and minimise costs.

This proactive approach and strong working relationship ensured progress on site was not hindered. The site teams effectively managed water ingress by implementing regular pumping, allowing works to continue safely despite the challenging weather.

Conclusion

Despite several logistical and environmental challenges, the team successfully installed the tank to a high standard, maintaining safety and quality.

The client was extremely pleased with both the outcome and the project management, ultimately awarding a score of 10 in the post-project NPS survey, reflecting the strength of the partnership and successful delivery under challenging conditions.
