Balmoral secures LPBC exports certification, ensuring global fire safety
By Ross Waite, Export Sales Manager
Fire tanks are not just pieces of engineering - they are part of the unseen safety net that protects lives in offices, data centres, factories and public spaces. They feed the sprinkler systems and emergency response measures that can make the difference between a controlled incident and a disaster. When the stakes are that high, regulation and certification are not bureaucracy; they are life-saving standards.
Why unregulated is the same as unsafe
Put simply: if a fire tank isn’t built and maintained to a regulated standard, it can’t be trusted to perform when it matters most. In the UK the LPCB (Loss Prevention Certification Board) certificate sets out exactly how tanks should be designed, manufactured, installed and tested. This begins at the factory, with control checks on essential components such as vortex inhibitors and other accessories which contribute to the performance of the tank throughout the tanks life.
Without these checks, tanks may still “hold water,” but they may fail under wind loads, leak over time, or underperform in an emergency - and in fire protection, “almost good enough” is simply unsafe. The LPCB process ensures tanks meet manufacturing standards, function in extreme conditions and remain reliable long after installation.
From UK expertise to global impact
Balmoral Tanks is one of only three cylindrical manufacturers globally - and uniquely across both GRP and steel tanks - to hold both UK LPCB accreditation and the LPCB Export Certificate.
This global certification means customers in Benelux to the Middle East and Asia can now access UK-engineered standards, bringing consistency and reassurance to markets, globally.
Alongside LPCB, Balmoral offers three separate inspections (pre-site, during and post-installation), an inspection programme, and proprietary technologies such as FireFlow™ anti-vortex technology. Alongside this, Balmoral is also the only UK tank manufacturer to hold the BSI Kitemark for customer service - together, LPCB (product quality) and BSI (service excellence) demonstrate our commitment to both engineering excellence and client support.
Why safety travels with us
Exporting is not only about opening new markets - it is about extending our expertise, quality and consistent standards wherever we go. In some regions, tanks are still assessed mainly on their ability to store water, rather than on how they perform in an emergency. Balmoral’s approach is to ensure customers worldwide benefit from the same high level of engineering, installation and aftercare that has become the benchmark in the UK.
The LPCB Export Certificate allows Balmoral to take proven British expertise and apply it globally, giving consultants, developers and building owners confidence that when they specify or select Balmoral Tanks their product is manufactured to some of the most rigorous and independent standards aimed at protecting their assets when it matters most.
Balmoral Tanks carries LPCB Exports (2025), LPCB Y (2024) and BSI Kitemark (2023).
